Ramp Control Scheme
Ramps are key connecting channels that establish links between urban expressways and at-grade road networks. The use of ramp control systems can balance the service levels of expressways and at-grade road networks, and ensure the operational efficiency of critical urban traffic road networks. The comprehensive perception capability of traffic conditions on expressways, ramps, and related roads is crucial for determining the control effect of ramp systems, with the core data bases being the main road service level, ramp entrance queue status, and ramp exit flow.

Ramp entrance control ensures the smooth flow of traffic on the elevated main road.
· When the main road is unobstructed, the ramp is not controlled, and vehicles entering the main road from the ramp are released in accordance with the preset plan.
· When Microwave Radar Detector B detects that the ramp queue has spilled over, vehicles entering the ramp are controlled; however, vehicles entering the main road from the ramp are not controlled and are released according to the preset plan.
· When Microwave Radar Detector A detects that the main road traffic flow has increased and the average speed is lower than a specific set value, the ramp begins to be controlled. This reduces the traffic flow entering the main road from the ramp, increases the driving speed on the main road, and ensures the smooth flow of traffic on the main road.
Through data preprocessing and logical operations, the on-off signals of the detection system are transmitted to the signal controllers at the ramp entrances and exits, which are used for controlling signal phases. When the main road traffic flow increases or congestion occurs downstream, the ramp entry rate is adjusted and reduced to ensure the smooth flow of the main road.
